Impulsiveness and the big building full of books

The library turns me into a magpie. Earlier this week I went in for one book on Adobe Illustrator and an hour later walked out with more than a dozen items. Between long lists of search results and an eye-catching book cover design or title lurking on the shelf, serendipity strikes and I have to grab that shiny book and make it mine for a while. Before long I have a tall stack of books, CDs and DVDs that I have to carefully balance as I go down the one set of stairs that will then lead me up another set of stairs to the parking lot (the Warsaw library is horribly designed). I didn't bring in a bag because I was going to get only one item, of course.

So, here's how I went from the rock section of the CD case to ... something completely different.

  • The resistance [compact disc] / Muse
  • From here to eternity live [compact disc] / the Clash
  • Abbey Road [compact disc] / The Beatles
  • Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band [compact disc] / Beatles
  • Adobe Illustrator CS3 (Classroom in a book)
  • Get the most from Photoshop / Simon Joinson
  • Ace of cakes : inside the world of Charm City Cakes / Duff Goldman & Willie Goldman
  • The Whimsical Bakehouse : fun-to-make cakes that taste as good as they look! / Kaye Hansen and Liv Hansen
  • Wedding cakes / text by Kathleen Hackett
  • One-of-a-kind wedding. Invitations and paper details / Laura Maffeo and Colleen Mullaney
  • The art and craft of keepsake photography engagements and weddings : how to take perfect photos and make stunning invitations, announcements, albums, thank you notes, and more / Barbara Smith
  • Contemporary wedding crafts : over 40 stylish projects for the modern bride / compiled by Jennifer Fox-Proverbs
  • Scrapbooking your wedding : fresh ideas for stunning pages
It really does turn into a kind of stream-of-consciousness selection. Tomorrow I go back to return some of the above items, use the Internet and maybe grab some adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Who knows what I'll actually bring home.
